Nick McDonnell
Nick is a director with Kain Knight and a costs lawyer who graduated from Cambridge University in 1998. He went into the law, practising civil litigation with a small firm in the north-west, where he also took up an interest in costs. Since then, Nick qualified as a costs lawyer in 2010 and has worked with a number of leading costs firms and costs solicitors. Nick has become a well-respected expert in his field, conducting high-value and complex costs matters, managing a costs business, and delivering technical and practical training to firms of solicitors throughout England and Wales, as well as championing access to justice in the face of the government’s fixed recoverable costs reforms, particularly in relation to housing disrepair claims.
His notable Court of Appeal cases include Belsner v CAM Legal Services Ltd [2022] EWCA Civ 1387, West & Demouilpied v Stockport NHS Foundation Trust [2019] EWCA Civ 1220, Khaira & Ors v Shergill & Ors [2017] EWCA Civ 1687, and Stone Rowe Brewer LLP v Just Costs Ltd [2015] EWCA Civ 1168.
