300 law firms still don’t have compliance officers
Monday, 4 March 2013More than two months since law firms were meant to have their compliance officers in place, around 300 firms still do not have them, the Solicitors Regulation Authority has revealed. This is a mix of firms that have not had their nominations approved and those that have still not nominated at all.

SRA’s red tape bonfire to move onto vexed question of non-material breaches
Thursday, 28 February 2013The Solicitors Regulation Authority is to revisit its policy on requiring firms to report non-material breaches to examine whether it amounts to an “unnecessary burden” on the profession. Its board yesterday approved the first 10 proposals in its red tape initiative.

Do you ‘get’ OFR?
Thursday, 28 February 2013A number of positives are revealed in a recent survey conducted by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Most notably, a year after the implementation of outcomes-focused regulation (OFR) and perhaps understandably, firms’ attitudes are shifting towards greater levels of acceptance as they increase their experience of working with the new regime of regulation. Measuring the impact of OFR on firms, released last week, found that 50% of respondents felt ‘favourable’ about OFR, a welcome increase on the previous year’s 36%. However, that still leaves the other 50% to be convinced.

LSB: much to do to make SRA’s performance satisfactory

The never-ending story: publication of Legal Education and Training Review delayed again
