New QASA row erupts over role of solicitors in youth court cases

Version 4 of Handbook goes live as SRA promises no further COLP/COFA delay

Bar calls on judges to halt solicitor “abuse” of QASA
Monday, 21 May 2012The Bar has called on judges to block solicitors appearing before them as plea-only advocates under the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates. There were also calls for action to end the “corrupt practice” of criminal defence solicitors demanding referral fees.

Consumer panel calls on training review to replace CPD with revalidation scheme for lawyers

LSB hints at support for solicitors’ position in row with barristers over QASA

Barristers and solicitors at loggerheads over QASA

Quality scheme risks independence of advocates, leading judge warns
Tuesday, 14 February 2012The proposed Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates threatens the independence of advocates, a senior judge claimed yesterday. Lord Justice Moses argued that quality of advocacy is best assured through compulsory training and more active reporting of poor advocates by judges.
