SRA bids to slash minimum PII cover to £500,000
Thursday, 8 May 2014The Solicitors Regulation Authority has called for the minimum level of indemnity cover firms must obtain to be cut to £500,000. The existing limits are £2m for traditional partnerships, or £3m for incorporated practices.

Financial services change “will spark massive rise in claims against solicitors”, SRA warned

Good news day for solicitors: both strike-offs and negligence claims fall

“Bumper years” of negligence claims against solicitors on their way, warns top broker
Monday, 17 January 2011Solicitors are facing “bumper” years of claims for professional negligence as recession-driven legal actions start to bite, a leading broker has warned. The latest High Court figures indicate that negligence claims against solicitors rose from 80 to 210 in 2009, which is more than any other type of professional indemnity claim, and Lockton has predicted that the figure will continue to rise.

Sampson: Legal Ombudsman will investigate complaints that cross into negligence
Monday, 18 October 2010The Legal Ombudsman (LeO) will seek to determine complaints that cross over into professional negligence, it has emerged. Chief ombudsman Adam Sampson said that while its predecessor bodies, such as the Legal Complaints Service, would shy away from complaints about the quality of legal advice offered, the Legal Services Act “makes no mention of any such limitation of our powers”.
