Law Society budgets for £10m deficit as Hudson receives 6.8% pay rise
Thursday, 5 July 2012IT project “cost overruns” have contributed to the Law Society budgeting for a £10m deficit this year, it has emerged. The 2011 accounts also reveal that chief executive Des Hudson received a 6.8% pay rise last year to £407,000 in total.

5% Solution Group set to meet Lodder over demand to cut Bar Council costs

Barristers face practising fee hike
Tuesday, 22 November 2011Barristers are facing a 5% increase in the cost of practising as the Bar Council looks to raise an extra £365,000 to balance its budget next year. That means QCs in private practice would pay a core fee of £1,026, while those at the employed Bar would pay £728.

Cost of SRA compliance “forcing small firms to close”, says Law Society survey

PC fee set to fall more than expected

Cost of regulating solicitors to fall 22% as biggest 15 firms face £6.3m bill to practise
Thursday, 2 June 2011Regulation will cost solicitors 22% less this year, figures released by the Solicitors Regulation Authority have revealed. However, contributions to the compensation fund are set to soar – from £10 to £60 for individuals and £120 to £772 for firms.

PC fee to fall as SRA takes steps to ensure ABSs cannot “manipulate” turnover
Tuesday, 31 May 2011The practising certificate fee is set to fall by 16.7% to £350 in the coming year, it has emerged. The news comes as the Solicitors Regulation Authority should tomorrow approve provisions that will allow it to amend an alternative business structure’s turnover figure – upon which the SRA’s fees will be based – if it feels the number does not reflect the true value of the legal services provided.

Junior barristers face huge PC fee hike
Friday, 27 August 2010Junior barristers are facing huge rises in their practising certificate fees under reforms unveiled by the Bar Council. Women and black and minority ethnic barristers are set to be disproportionately hit by the increases, although the Bar Council says the waiver system for low earners will offset this.
