SRA fires warning shots over referral fee ban and “reckless trading”
Friday, 19 April 2013Law firms will be held responsible for breaching the personal injury referral fee ban if they sign up to ventures that appear to be genuine joint marketing schemes but prove illegal, the Solicitors Regulation Authority has warned. It will also target senior individuals within firms that “recklessly trade into insolvency”.

‘Save the Legal Industry’ campaign reports 2,500 personal injury job losses
Friday, 22 March 2013The new ‘Save the Legal Industry’ campaign has reported the loss of 2,500 jobs among personal injury law firms as they prepare for next month’s civil justice reforms. It has launched a ‘Job loss counter’ aimed at making the government see the “direct effect” of its policies.

ABSs to the fore as Quindell claims 15% of PI market and Countrywide sees profits rise
Friday, 22 February 2013Quindell Portfolio, the alternative business structure that has acquired three law firms in the past 12 months, will have “15% of the UK market for personal injury claims” this year, it has claimed. Meanwhile, another major ABS – Countrywide Conveyancing Services – has reported profits of £8m for last year, up 4% on 2011.
