ABS for nurses to focus on personal injury

Fairpoint looks for new firms to buy as it achieves “double-digit growth”

Major insurance fraud report: Increase SRA fining powers, lower tribunal burden of proof
Tuesday, 19 January 2016The government should consider strengthening the fining powers of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and lowering the burden of proof in cases that reach the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal as part of the reforms needed to combat insurance fraud, a major report has recommended.

LeO to spend less on complaints about law firms and more on CMCs

CMC loses licence after 40m nuisance calls in three months
Tuesday, 12 January 2016A claims management company which made 40m nuisance calls in only three months has had its license revoked by the Claims Management Regulator. Kevin Rousell, head of the CMR, said the firm “demonstrated the worst excesses” of the industry.

No end to flood of complaints about CMCs as total rises above 15,000
Wednesday, 6 January 2016The number of complaints to the Legal Ombudsman about claims management companies is gathering pace and passed 15,000 in the first nine months of 2015, it has emerged. LeO said almost half of the complaints were about fees.

Slater & Gordon tight-lipped as Australian law firms recruit shareholders for group actions

PI firm blames Autumn Statement as it suspends construction of “iconic” £8m building

Professional negligence warning over PI, commercial and family work
Tuesday, 8 December 2015Personal injury, commercial and family work will all fuel negligence claims against lawyers, insurance specialist BLM has warned in a white paper. It also predicted that a new source of claims could come from the “rapid pace of reform” in legal services, testing new systems and processes “to their limit”.
