Herbert Smith eschews offshore to open document review operation in Belfast
Wednesday, 24 November 2010City law firm Herbert Smith has eschewed offshore outsourcing to set up a document review operation in Belfast. The first firm to establish a UK base for this kind of work, Herbert Smith said it was seeking to take advantage of the “significantly lower case base” in Northern Ireland and the high-quality pool of legal talent there.

Mayson: lawyers have lost touch with what clients want and need to rethink cost base
Wednesday, 29 September 2010Too many lawyers have lost touch with what clients are really looking for and need to do more to create value for their clients, legal strategy expert Stephen Mayson has claimed. He also argued that major law firms need to rethink their cost base as “stripping out cost, based on the traditional ways of working, has gone about as far as it can”.

Smaller firms seeing benefits of outsourcing
Wednesday, 21 July 2010Smaller law firms are beginning to see real benefits and savings from outsourcing non-legal services, research has suggested. A survey by IRN Research of 36 firms with 10 partners or fewer found that just under half of them are outsourcing some non-legal activities.

Top firms outsourcing elsewhere in the UK just as much as to India
Wednesday, 21 April 2010Top law firms are outsourcing as much to elsewhere within the UK as they are to India and South Africa, new research has found. Litigation support was the most popular service, followed by knowledge management, legal process and secretarial/typing work.

Private equity gains new foothold in LPO
