Moore Legal Technology is excited and proud to be celebrating its 15th year in business. 2003! A life time ago when it comes to the evolution of the digital marketing, never mind the changes that the legal sector has gone through in that time. A time before Facebook, twitter, Gmail, the iPhone, before inbound marketing had a name, and long before the financial crash forced lawyers to look more closely at finding new ways of generating business.

The BBC recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of its news website. 20 years! Some of our staff wouldn’t even have started primary school when the Beeb online were reporting on plans to harmonise tax policies across the EU (how times have changed!)

The future is now. We all face a battle to remain relevant and change must be embraced. Law firms and lawyers who are agile of thought and action will continue to prosper. The days of a discrete brass plaque as the only calling card for business are gone. The internet is your new shop front, and it’s open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day as customers look for and assess you. Even normal routes to business, such as referrals from friends, will be impacted by the internet. No matter the recommendation, it will become the norm to assess a business online before engaging them. If you aren’t talking to them in a way that they value online, you may one day be pulling down the shutters for the final time.

Following recent law firm ‘merger’ and administration announcements north of the border, well-kent names such as Maclay Murray & Spens, Pagan Osborne and Hamilton Burns will cease to be a part of the Scottish Legal firmament.
