Jackson reforms clear final hurdle as Djanogly treads carefully over referral fees

An amended impact assessment has been approved by the Cabinet Office’s regulatory policy committee after it gave the original version a “red card”.

Referral fee ban is “back on the government’s agenda”

Coalition set to unveil legal aid and Jackson legislation
Monday, 16 May 2011Legislation to implement the legal aid and the Jackson reforms will be introduced to Parliament in the next few weeks, it has emerged. The Ministry of Justice’s updated 2011-15 business plan, published on Friday, says legislation will be introduced in June.

Legal charity launches first formal challenge to government’s costs reform blueprint
Wednesday, 27 April 2011The Public Law Project has issued the first formal challenge to the government’s plans for reforming the costs of civil litigation. In a letter before action sent to justice secretary Ken Clarke, the charity’s solicitors, Leigh Day & Co, protest the lack of costs protection for those bringing judicial review proceedings.

Consumer watchdog calls on SRA to probe referral fees and conflicts of interest in BTE
Monday, 18 April 2011The Solicitors Regulation Authority should investigate the practice of panels of solicitors taking cases from before-the-event legal expenses insurers on a conditional fee basis after paying referral fees, a consumer watchdog has argued.
