Campaign launched to expose Coalition’s “hidden agenda” on Jackson report
Tuesday, 7 December 2010A campaign to expose the Coalition government’s “hidden agenda” in pursuing Lord Justice Jackson’s reforms of personal injury (PI) costs was launched in London today. The Access to Justice Action Group – which is being co-ordinated by former Labour MP and claimant PI lawyer Andrew Dismore – highlights that the the reforms will cut the number of law firms in the field and thus reduce access to justice.

Government targets client account interest as it outlines £400m legal aid cuts
Monday, 15 November 2010Solicitors could be struck off for failing to pay the interest they have made on client accounts to the government, under proposals released today. The interest would be used to bolster the legal aid fund after the Ministry of Justice today unveiled a package to cut as much as £440m from the legal aid budget. The Jackson reforms will be implemnted but with possible “refinements”.

Upheaval for PI lawyers as MoJ confirms claims process extension; Jackson imminent

Cabinet backs Young; peer favours referral fee ban; MoJ to extend claims process
Friday, 15 October 2010The Cabinet has given its backing to Lord Young’s blueprint to reform health and safety and curb the excesses of the compensation culture, the peer revealed today. He also expressed a desire to see an end to referral fees and said the Ministry of Justice had agreed to extend the road traffic accident claims process to other areas of personal injury.

Jackson assessor casts doubt on likelihood of referral fee ban
Wednesday, 28 April 2010One of Lord Justice Jackson’s own assessors – the Senior Costs Judge, Peter Hurst – has cast doubt on the judge’s recommendation that referral fees be abolished, it has emerged. The news comes ahead of two influential reports examining referral fees that are to be published next month.
