It was recently reported that NHS Digital had launched a campaign which seeks to raise awareness and change the behaviours of staff in relation to data protection.

The Court of Appeal made a ruling on 2nd October in the Lloyd v Google case which may open the floodgates to data breach claims. The Court decided that claimants would be entitled to compensation even if the only personal information breached was their email address.

Research published by Egress has exposed that employees are the biggest threat to an organisation’s data protection obligations showing that attitudes and practices when using and sharing personal information are significantly lacking.

Members of the organisation include the Royal Mail, Telefonica 02, UK Mail and BT, EE, Virgin Media and Santander.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published its annual report showing that more than a third (34%) of consumers trust organisations to adequately protect their personal information – an increase from 21% the previous year.
