The video conferencing app Zoom has suffered a significant data breach with a reported half a million users’ credentials being sold, or given away, on the dark web as cybercriminals take advantage of a surge in its use.

As the UK enters a period of full lockdown, a number of Covid-19 apps have been launched, one promises to check users’ symptoms remotely and to provide the latest guidance, while another seeks to help researchers identify hotspots and non-typical symptoms.

It was announced in January 2020 that the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) would be fining high street retailer Dixons Carphone the maximum pre GDPR data breach fine of £500,000.

The UK has left the European Union however, GDPR, an EU regulation, still applies during the transition period which is due to end in December 2020.

Data protection specialist Hayes Connor Solicitors will be launching a group action against Dixons Carphone Warehouse after the ICO announced a £500,000 fine last week following the group’s significant data breach in 2018.
