Former Mishcons partner convicted of forgery and fraud offences
Tuesday, 6 December 2011A former partner of London law firm Mishcon de Reya was yesterday convicted of forgery and two fraud offences aimed at conning a bank out of €22m. Kevin James Steele, 51 of Kent, will be sentenced on 9 January 2012.

CPS drops charges against solicitors and doctors accused of ATE insurance fraud
Monday, 5 December 2011The Crown Prosecution Service has dropped charges against 11 solicitors and doctors who were accused of a £4m referral fee fraud involving after-the-event legal expenses insurance. The lawyers may instead be referred to the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Claims lodged over dishonesty and default by solicitors spiral above £200m

SRA warns firms to be on the lookout for fraudsters cloning their identities
Tuesday, 25 January 2011Law firms should search the Internet regularly to ensure their identities have not been “cloned” by fraudsters, the Solicitors Regulation Authority has advised. The SRA issued the warning after recent fraudulent activity where bona fide firms and solicitors have had their identities cloned by criminals particularly operating advance-fee frauds.

Solicitors warned over store-card fraud
Tuesday, 2 November 2010Solicitors need to be vigilant about large debts being run up in their name as a result of fraudulent store card applications, Legal Futures Associate the Lawyers Defence Group has warned. The legal defence and advice organisation raised the alarm after it was revealed by one popular DIY store that a number of solicitors have been targeted in this way.
