Better together?
Thursday, 20 June 2013At the Council for Licensed Conveyancers, we are keen to see more change in the regulation and delivery of legal services before we see a reduction in the number of regulators. But there is one area that we do think is ripe for simplification now and that is in the arrangements for compensation. A single compensation fund across all regulators would bring real consumer benefits and reduce regulatory costs.

AIM-listed conveyancing business set to become first ABS casualty
Monday, 3 June 2013In-deed Online plc – the first listed company to buy a law firm – is now set to become the first alternative business structure (ABS) casualty after announcing plans to sell the practice back to one of its founders along with the rest of the online conveyancing company’s business.

Legal price comparison websites “begin to sign up” to good practice standards

Licensed conveyancers support retaining referral fees

Council for Licensed Conveyancers: regulatory ambitions stretch well beyond conveyancers

LSB chief questions need for training contract and pupillage, and pushes for faster ABS process

CILEx and CLC confirm bids to become will-writer regulators

LSB formally requests government to regulate will-writing – but not estate administration
Wednesday, 13 February 2013The Legal Services Board (LSB) will today formally recommend to the Lord Chancellor that will-writing – but not estate administration – should be regulated legal work. The LSB had initially intended to include estate administration.

Speed up ABS process and simplify complaints process further, says OFT report
Friday, 18 January 2013Regulators need to speed up their processes for approving alternative business structures, the Office of Fair Trading said today. It also called for further simplification of the complaints system, recommended actions to increase the number of available pupillages and gave cautious support for the move away from title-based regulation.

Frontline regulators hit back at LSB assessment of their performance
Friday, 21 December 2012Some of the frontline regulators have hit back at the Legal Services Board’s assessment of their performance. A detailed report on the “smaller” regulators found a wide range of competence, both across the different regulators and within each of them individually.
