Complaints reviewer warns SRA over appearing that it is “intent on looking after solicitors”
Tuesday, 12 June 2012Dissatisfaction with the response of the Solicitors Regulation Authority to allegations of misconduct by solicitors is the most common source of complaints against the authority, with the introduction of risk-based regulation making the situation worse, its independent reviewer has found.

Give non-clients the right to complain about lawyers, says consumer panel

Insolvency Service gives SRA a taste of its own medicine

Cost of legal services continues to rise – as does number of people going it alone without lawyers

LeO cuts £3m off budget as income from case fees collapses
Tuesday, 3 April 2012The Legal Ombudsman is to reduce its budget by 14% – amounting to nearly £3m – over the next year, it has revealed. It is in large part accounted for by a far lower receipt of case fees last year than had been expected.

Lawyers strike back? EU proposals could allow them to complain about clients

It's final – LeO decides to name and shame lawyers over complaints

BSB: legal aid cuts drive “unprecedented increase” in complaints by litigants in person
Tuesday, 27 September 2011Complaints against barristers by litigants-in-person (LiPs) forced by legal aid cuts to represent themselves have continued to spike, according to the Bar Standards Board. It has received as many complaints from LiPs in the first half of 2011 as it did in 2009 and 2010 combined.
