SRA: referral fee ban could drive many firms out of business – and may not even stop dodgy claims
Wednesday, 13 June 2012The impending ban on referral fees in personal injury could result in a “steep increase” in the number of financial failures amongst small law firms – but may not actually discourage spurious claims – the Solicitors Regulation Authority has warned.

Consumers slowly getting the message that they don’t need CMCs, says Financial Ombudsman
Wednesday, 23 May 2012There has been a fall in the number of consumers using claims management companies (CMCs) to make complaints about payment protection insurance mis-selling, while some CMCs are “disappointingly lax” in the way they pursue their clients’ cases, the Financial Ombudsman Service has reported.

Row erupts over call to clamp down on claims managers handling PPI work

Legal Ombudsman: let us accept complaints from prospective clients and third parties
Monday, 26 March 2012Prospective clients and third parties will be able to make complaints about lawyers, if plans unveiled by the Legal Ombudsman today go ahead. The one-year time limit for making complaints to LeO will also be extended, as will the level of compensation it can award.

Bid to make referral fees a crime fizzles out

Government targets legal services regulation in ‘Red Tape Challenge’

SRA calls on government to provide more clarity over referral fee ban

"Growing lobby" to stop use of ABSs to get around referral fee ban

Insurers were also asked to be honest about whether motor premiums will go down after the ban.
