BSB research highlights problems non-traditional candidates face in securing pupillage

BSB: 85 barrister disciplinary decisions at risk because of tribunal errors
Thursday, 26 April 2012The Bar Standards Board has identified around 85 disciplinary cases involving barristers that could be invalidated by the fact that tribunal members who sat in judgment over them were ineligible for the role.

Legal Services Consumer Panel survives the chop – for now

"Flawed" Bar disciplinary panels oversaw hundreds of cases
Thursday, 5 April 2012Around 550 disciplinary cases involving barristers could be affected by the failure to validly appoint some of the tribunal members who sat in judgment on them, we can reveal. Specialist regulatory lawyers are watching closely to see if cases can be reopened.

Putting the LSB back in its box
Wednesday, 4 April 2012If we are to judge the success of a regulator by the degree to which it really annoys those it regulates, then the Legal Services Board (LSB) has done an absolutely bang-up job these past three years. It is just over 12 months since I first blogged about whispers questioning the long-term need for the LSB once independent regulation, the Legal Ombudsman and alternative business structures were all up and running. Well, they are whispers no more.

Set the date to scrap the LSB, Bar regulator tells government
Wednesday, 4 April 2012The “end is in sight” for the Legal Services Board (LSB) and it can be abolished in about three years’ time, the Bar’s regulator has told the government. The Bar Council stopped short of this, but said the LSB should be reined in.

"Significant" number of chambers to avoid diversity data publication – but what about law firms?
