Todd calls for last stand against QASA

Barristers “must adopt corporate approach” to survive

Run that past me one more time
Friday, 18 May 2012If ever there was a “what the…?” moment since setting up Legal Futures, it was the news that the Stobart Group is entering the legal services market. The story launched many an attempt at humour on Twitter, but I will gladly put them to one side. One can see some challenges for this venture, not least that while Eddie Stobart is a well-known brand, especially among motorway travellers, it is not known for delivering any services, let alone professional ones, to consumers.

BSB research highlights problems non-traditional candidates face in securing pupillage
Tuesday, 1 May 2012Applicants for pupillage who are white, male, attended a fee-paying school or Oxbridge, or have parents who are educated to degree level are all more likely to succeed than those without such characteristics, Bar Standards Board research has found.

BSB: 85 barrister disciplinary decisions at risk because of tribunal errors
Thursday, 26 April 2012The Bar Standards Board has identified around 85 disciplinary cases involving barristers that could be invalidated by the fact that tribunal members who sat in judgment over them were ineligible for the role.

Legal Services Consumer Panel survives the chop – for now
Friday, 13 April 2012The Legal Services Consumer Panel has escaped the government’s consolidation of consumer advocacy and information into Citizens Advice – for now. The move was strongly opposed by the Legal Services Board but supported by the Law Society.
