CaseCheck, the online case law database, has published Studying Law: An essential guide for law students. Free to all subscribers, it recommends techniques that students can use to help make law a more manageable subject.
Presented in one easily searched document, the guide aims to help make studying law easier. Each chapter covers some of the basic elements of studying law, including lecture and tutorial preparation, an overview of how to write on the law intelligibly and effectively, and how to find and cite legal sources.
It also provides tips on preparing, sitting and succeeding in exams and other assessments students are likely to encounter on law courses.
Informed by the experience of the authors while law students and as university tutors, it provides practical advice essential for those about to study, or in the process of studying, law. The general suggestions and basic tips also give students the grounding in finding and processing information expected of those who enter into professional legal careers.
The guide complements CaseCheck’s Case Law Digest, a quarterly document of all the case summaries added to CaseCheck’s online database. The Digest is also a handy study tool, providing law students with an insight into the most recent developments in the courts and the legal issues that remain contentious all within one consolidated document.
Three editions of the Digest are currently available. This year’s autumn edition will be released shortly. An extract of 2012 annual Digest can be found here.
