Claims Futures Conference 2024
| We are in a new era of consumers. One where they will not accept bad advice or poor products with a grumble and a post on social media but instead actively seek to enforce their rights. And so the legal market is in a new era of volume consumer litigation. Put together, this means that Claims Futures could not have been more timely. The first conference of its kind, we explored the fast-growing area of claims, spanning financial mis-selling, data protection breaches, energy bills, and more. We explored the key components of running a volume consumer claims practice, the ‘hot’ areas to target, attracting clients, how to fund these cases, compliance issues, and where class actions fit in. We also addressed the risks. We could not ignore the fall-out from the collapse of firms like Pure Legal and SSB, both for what they tell us about the pitfalls of this work and for the damage they are doing to the profession’s reputation. The speakers and panelists included many expert voices from the field, starting with consumer advocates who opened the conference by setting out the landscape of consumer empowerment.
