Supporting the industry: Law students join Access Legal for inside track on a career in law

Access LegalLondon-based law students joined Access Legal for an invaluable day of practical advice and learning to support their legal careers, thanks to a partnership between Urban Lawyers and Access Legal, the leading provider of software and services to the UK legal market.

Access Legal, part of The Access Group, hosted an Insights Day for law students with charity Urban Lawyers, to share its combined expertise of the legal sector with the potential future lawyers, helping them to prepare for a career in the sector.

The event, held at The Access Group’s London office demonstrated Access Legal’s commitment to improve diversity in the legal sector and support law firms with every aspect of their business – including talent attraction and retention. Students learnt about the value that Access Legal delivers to firms, gaining insights on what it’s like working within the legal industry, as well as best practice advice and workshops on interview and CV skills to equip them with the vital skills to land their first legal job.

One of the students who took part said it was “an honour” to attend and added: “The event was a fantastic blend of inspiration and practical learning. The constructive feedback I received was incredibly insightful and has left me feeling more confident and better equipped to tackle future interviews.”

Urban Lawyers, a charity set up by international human rights barrister Dr Tunde Okewale OBE, aims to make legal courses and careers more accessible to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Dr Okewale said the event was a perfect way to connect with future legal professionals to share their expertise and advice of working in the legal area: “We’re passionate about improving social mobility and diversity in the legal sector – a profession that has been limited to many young people because of where they have grown up or the schools they have gone to. Events like this help tackle the diversity challenge within the legal profession and exposes the students Urban Lawyers supports, to an opportunity to learn in a way they may not otherwise be able to.”

Andrew Stevens, Access Legal General Manager, shared: “It was fantastic to see how keen the students were to learn about the legal sector and prepare themselves for a career in law upon graduation. Events like this further demonstrate Access Legal’s commitment to supporting the legal market, as well as helping to promote and encourage a diverse workforce, setting young people up for success with their future career path.”

Supporting charities is at the core of The Access Group’s key values and employees take part in a variety of initiatives throughout the year, allowing them to give something back to their communities and make a difference to causes they are passionate about.

Access Legal regularly supports charitable groups and projects through its Charity of the Year initiative and The Access Foundation, which was set up to bridge the digital divide within the UK and give back to local communities.
