The Great Legal Bake returns next month and budding bakers across the UK are prepping their cake tins and getting ready to celebrate Pro Bono Week (4 – 8 November). Hosted by the London Legal Support Trust, in partnership with the Access to Justice Foundation, this tasty event raises dough for access to justice.
Last year, 100 organisations rose to the challenge – raising an impressive £26,000 for free legal advice charities. From family favourite recipes, legal themed bakes and even a shop bought cake or two – this event is the perfect opportunity to bring colleagues together for a coffee morning in support of a great cause.
Pro Bono Week offers an opportunity to recognise and support the voluntary contribution made by the legal profession across the UK in giving free legal help to those in need. The 2024 theme for the Week is “The Power of Pro Bono”, underscoring the impact that lawyers can have when volunteering their legal services for free.
Chair of the Pro Bono Week organising committee, barrister Toby Brown, said: “By taking part in this year’s Great Legal Bake, we can help bake the world a ‘butter’ place. Law students, lawyers, charity staff and judges will share baked treats and raise much needed funds for free legal advice charities. Please do get baking from 4 to 8 November or come ready with your donation!”
Charities offering specialist free legal advice help thousands of people every year. Without these services some of the most marginalised people in our society would not have the same access to legal advice as their neighbours. By baking and donating you can help people stay employed, with a roof over their head and be safe.
