Lockdown didn’t stop Quill holding its AGM on 24th April; the first time ever as a virtual event with over 100 staff simultaneously online learning about its software and services. There were numerous highlights, not least announcing the Peter Dye Memorial Shield recipient; an award introduced two years ago in memory of Quill’s former director and given to employees demonstrating exceptional performance.
Karen Heggie, Pinpoint Technical Lead, was chosen to receive the shield for 2020 for a whole multitude of reasons. Having worked at Quill for almost 12 years, she’s moved around various departments throughout her tenure including Support and Implementation as well as Pinpoint. By doing so, she’s gathered vast knowledge of the inner workings of Quill.
Karen is admired for her absolute willingness to support all departments when needed. Because of her experience across Quill’s business, she guides new staff members as part of their induction process and bolsters teams during busy periods.
Corrine Blake, HR Manager, explains: “What we love about Karen is that she’s happy to go back to her roots or side step into another department to help out her colleagues. We appreciate the phenomenal contribution she makes to all layers and levels of Quill. Normally if you want something doing, you do it yourself – but at Quill, you ask Karen and it’s done. She’s a very worthy recipient of our revered Peter Dye Memorial Shield and £100 Love2Shop vouchers prize as her assistance has been particularly poignant this past year.”
Karen Heggie states: “I was totally shocked to get chosen. I’m known for being outspoken but my big mouth does raise attention to how I’m helping others! I’m delighted to have my name on the shield named after one of our founders and I’m excited about hitting the shops to spend my vouchers post lockdown.”
Julian Bryan, Managing Director, comments about the AGM generally: “Given the current state of play, it was unfortunate we couldn’t get together physically as a collective whole for our AGM. Instead, we ‘met’ via Google Meets and we managed to join all employees on one virtual video call which was no small order.
“As well as covering the standard agenda items regarding software and service updates, company performance and future goals, we added some humour by running an interactive DJ-style Kahoot quiz on everything that was discussed in the afternoon. It was a resounding success and I’m proud of my senior leaders for making sure everything went to plan.”
