Introducing right to work, right to rent and mortality checks

By Legal Futures Associate Lawtech Software Group

At Verify 365, we strive to continually innovate our platform and elevate the legal sector with our technology and our platform is making a significant impact on processes for law firms, estate agents and finance businesses across the UK.

As we own our technology, we have the ability to adapt our technology to meet the needs of our clients, ensuring they constantly meet compliance guidelines and function efficiently so they can focus on the things that matter.

The latest additions to the Verify 365 platform are Right to Work and Right to Rent (RTW & RTR) checks and mortality checks. These brand-new updates enable users to gather even more information on their clients and better validate identities.

Right to work and right to rent checks

Right-to-work and right-to-rent checks are official and regulated searches which fall within the scope of the DIATF certification. This option becomes available automatically within the dashboard on the person verification page under Biometric ID verification. A tick box appears which enables you to choose if you would like your client to complete this type of check.

However, the RTW and RTR are slightly different to our biometric checks in that they limit the client to only a British or Irish passport or an Irish ID card. In addition, this type of check also runs a PEPs and Sanctions check and a mortality check.

The update, while only for particular circumstances, will significantly benefit estate agents and conveyancers who need to clarify client information without necessarily needing biometric confirmation. This check is of governmental standard and helps estate agents meet their strict compliance obligations but just like our biometric ID checks, they are simple, fast and completed by the client through our easy-to-use app.

All the information gathered will appear on a comprehensive report that ensures businesses gain insight into the client and validate the information they have presented. We pride ourselves on the level of compliance we offer to users of our platform so just like our biometric ID checks, our RTW and RTR checks also meet HM Land Registry’s ‘Digital ID Standard’ meaning firms will still achieve Safe Harbour status.

This is a simple yet effective check that ensures businesses meet compliance requirements while gaining valuable insight into the client, enabling firms to validate their identity and also validate their current status such as if they are politically exposed, under any sanction or currently facing adverse media.

Mortality checks

Alongside introducing RTW and RTR checks, we’ve also introduced mortality checks which simply confirm if your client has been declared deceased. This is currently part of the RTW and RTR checking process but you will be able to send a mortality check as a stand-alone. The mortality check will appear on your verification report and detail if your client is deceased or not.

While this may sound strange from an outsider’s perspective, this check will play a significant role in combating ID fraud, money laundering and financial crime. A mortality check will help businesses prevent financial fraud as this check identifies any suspicious activity meaning we can act quickly to combat any fraud and report any anomalies within the information presented.

It is your legal obligation to combat ID and financial fraud as well as meet your compliance requirements and our mortality checks help you do so efficiently and effectively.

More feature releases

In addition to new checks, we’ve also introduced some new features within the Verify 365 platform that will help businesses verify their clients’ identities. These are:

Manual force generate button— Through the dashboard, a lawyer can “Force Generate” a report when their client only partially completes that check. It selects the data that has already been gathered and generates the report with just that data. This way, the lawyer has a report, and the client doesn’t need to complete the rest of the check.

View sender – This great addition does exactly what it says on the tin. On the reports, there will be an option to view who sent the check out for the client to complete.

Identity capture – This feature is our biometric ID check, without the biometrics. The client takes a picture of their document, a picture of themselves and that’s it. No biometrics or PEPs and Sanctions checks are involved. The purpose of identity capture is to collect people’s ID information internationally without running a biometric verification check.

We are innovating our technology to meet the requirements of businesses within the legal, property and financial sectors. If you would like to find out more information about Verify 365, you can download a brochure or book a demo with our expert team.
