Sheppard Mullin is a full-service AmLaw 50 firm with more than 1,000 attorneys in 16 offices located in the United States, Europe and Asia. Its clients include nearly half of the Fortune 100 for which the firm handles corporate and technology matters, high-stakes litigation and complex financial transactions.
With its commitment to client service, Sheppard Mullin wanted a solution that would allow it to combine its financial reporting into a single, cohesive financial dashboard that was accessible to all firm stakeholders and provided the financial data and insights that the firm and its clients need. “We have complex financial reporting requirements, and BigHand Business intelligence provided us with custom solutions that have worked very well for our needs,” said Keri Gavin, Sheppard Mullin’s Chief Financial Officer.
Role-based reporting & data visibility
BigHand Business Intelligence is an advanced financial BI solution for law firms with role-based reporting via intuitive dashboards. The flexible data warehouse replaces manual reporting with data visibility from firm level to individual clients and matters. Self-service analytics provide controlled access to relevant, visually-represented metrics that empower users with immediate financial insight.
“BigHand Business Intelligence offers flexibility and configurability. We built custom pages for our users — from attorneys and partners to firm-level management — and it allows us to track individual financial metrics, client and matter accruals/budgets, firmwide results and more,” Gavin said.
To date, Sheppard Mullin has rolled out BigHand’s Revenue Module to all timekeepers, as well as the accounting and finance teams. The firm has also implemented the General Ledger Module and plans to roll-out BigHand’s Profit Module, which will provide the firm with complete profitability analysis and reporting.
The response from the firm so far has been extremely positive, Gavin said. “BigHand Business Intelligence has been a key, strategic financial tool for the firm.”
